A leading global engineering and technology company is seeking a Legal Director to join its team in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will oversee legal activities for regional operating centres, manage a team of contract managers, and provide strategic legal advice across a broad spectrum of matters including contracts, intellectual property, corporate, ethics & compliance, and regulatory issues. Experience in the oil & gas industry or renewable energy sector is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee legal activities for Operating Centres.
- Manage and mentor a small team of contract managers.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts (EPC, engineering, partnerships, licensing).
- Ensure oversight and control of company liability on projects throughout the supply chain.
- Supervise the quality of the teamβs work product.
- Implement the Operating Model of the Legal Contracts Compliance Department.
- Manage legal entities, claims, and litigations within the Operating Centres.
- Lead ethics & compliance programs and manage regulatory issues.
- Support other Operating Centre activities in the Middle East as required.
- Manage career development for team members.
Reporting & Interactions
- Reports to the Legal Head of the relevant business line.
- Member of the Leadership Team of the Operating Centre and the extended Legal Leadership Team.
- Key internal interactions: Management Team, Business Development, Legal Contracts Compliance Department, and other sister functions (tax, finance, insurance, corporate).
- Key external interactions: clients, partners, external law firms, experts, and local authorities.
Requirements & Must-Haves
- Law Degree and experience in an international environment with a minimum of approximately 7+ years of post-qualified legal experience.
- Legal experience across a broad range of legal matters including experience in construction or EPC contracts.
- Strong written (including contract/legal drafting) and oral communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality work under deadlines.
- Ability to multitask and collaborate effectively across various levels and functions.
Relocation assistance will be included, if required.
