About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of our UAE-based client, a reputable organization in the hard commodity sector.
Responsibilities
- Represent the Client in a world-class, grass-roots petrochemical and refining project in the UAE from early engineering design through FEED and EPC.
Scope and Documentation
- Develop the project scope of work and Basis of Design. Provide detailed process inputs and compile ITB packages for pre-FEED and FEED phases. Evaluate bidding proposals and actively participate in the selection of engineering contractors.
Technology and Licensing
- Contribute to the pre-qualification and assessment of technology providers and process licensors.
- Review and analyze Preliminary Design Packages (PDPs), Basic Design Packages, and supporting study reports.
Coordination and Communication
- Maintain effective communication and coordination with international engineering contractors and technology licensors throughout the design phases.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring clear cross-functional integration and timely resolution of technical issues.
Documentation Review
- Review, comment on, and approve process-related documentation including BFDs/PFDs, process philosophies, design basis documents, specifications, drawings, and layout plans.
Process Design and Analysis
- Provide process inputs for large-scale petrochemical plant design, including process selection, plant configuration optimization, equipment/material specifications, and safety/environmental compliance analysis.
- Use advanced process simulation software (e.g., Aspen PIMS, Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or similar) to perform design calculations and simulations for both ISBL and OSBL facilities.
- Input into the design of other disciplines and participate in risk assessments, developing strategies to mitigate potential process-related issues.
Project Execution
- Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure the timely delivery of engineering packages and services.
- Participate in project reviews and workshops, ensuring the design is inherently safe and meets quality standards.
Leadership and Reporting
- Act as the process/technical lead within cross-functional teams, contributing to decision-making and ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Prepare and present detailed technical reports and recommendations to senior management and key stakeholders.
Additional Responsibilities
- Demonstrate flexibility for international travel, manage communications across multiple time zones, and ensure cultural sensitivity when working with diverse teams.
- Utilize project management tools and best practices to track project progress and deliverables.
Requirements
- Education: Master’s degree in Process or Chemical (Petrochemical) Engineering.
- Experience: A minimum of 15 years of experience in downstream process engineering, ideally in large-scale or international petrochemical/refining projects from conceptual design to EPC.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of petrochemical and refining technologies, including experience with licensor’s PDP, and the design of ISBL and OSBL facilities.
- Strong proficiency: in process design, optimization, and industrial engineering principles.
- Experience with process simulation software: (e.g., Aspen PIMS, Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or similar).
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with international standards and UAE National regulatory requirements related to safety, environmental compliance, and quality.
- Problem-Solving: Proven ability to manage complex technical problems and deliver innovative solutions.
- Communication and Leadership: Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead interdisciplinary teams.
- Language Requirement: English, Arabic is a strong plus
- Additional Qualities: International experience, flexibility for travel, and proficiency in using project management methodologies and tools.
