Overview

The Medical Science Liaison facilitates and develops the relationship with the medical / scientific community, particularly with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) but including other physicians and medical centres in Germany, by communicating scientific and medical product-related information to investigators and institutions. Works with all internal stakeholders to align business objectives.

This is a fixed term contract (18 months) with the opportunity to be converted to permanent post assignment. Candidate should live in preferably in South-West Germany.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary field-based medical affairs representative on the ground to support medical affairs initiatives.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for medical affairs onsite to support activities in the field of medical affairs.
  • Provide appropriate project-based scientific training for KOLs.
  • Identify and build relationships with national, regional and local KOLs.
  • Identify KOLs for medical training and clinical research opportunities.
  • Identify and profile KOLs, investigators, and institutions to assess their ability to participate in observational registries, conduct investigator-initiated studies, and participate in company-sponsored trials.
  • Develop strategic thought leader plans to provide on-demand, value-added services.
  • Provide input to and participate in cross-functional activities.
  • Participate in internal therapeutic advisory groups and project teams.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support publication planning, slide-deck development, and training initiatives.
  • Provide medical support for the company’s clinical research programs on the ground.
  • Deliver high quality medical education lectures in different settings and gather valuable feedback that can be shared across the organization.
  • Prepare accurate and timely management reports, projects and requested documents.

Professional Qualifications / Experience

  • Higher degree preferred (PhD, pharmacist, MBChB, MSc), plus 5 or more years MSL experience in the pharmaceutical industry or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Ophthalmology experience is desirable.
  • Proven experience with effective and influential oral presentations in medical and / or scientific settings.
  • Demonstration of proficiency in key skills and competencies.
  • Proficiency in German at native speaker level and fluent in English, both written and spoken.

  • In-depth scientific knowledge and interactions with internal customers and external auditors, KOLs and HCPs – providing insight to support different business units where appropriate.
  • Self-motivated, self-reliant, able to work independently - evident results orientation, with the drive to see things through – a real β€˜can-do’ approach.
  • Strong project management & organisational skills - able to plan and prioritise time effectively to achieve goals.
  • Flexible approach - the ability learn new things, think creatively and laterally, and think outside the box. Willingness to roll up your sleeves and get things done.
