Develop, design, program, and test Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) software and hardware for Cummins generator sets and power systems equipment. This role requires a combination of technical expertise in controls engineering and a deep understanding of power generation applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Technical Expertise & Practical Engineering Skills : A degree in electromechanical engineering (or equivalent experience) is essential, along with hands‑on skills in interpreting schematics (electrical and mechanical), conducting end‑of‑line testing, and resolving installation issues on‑site.
- Good knowledge and command of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) as it is used during the installation part.
- Project & Site Management Abilities : You’ll need to confidently manage subcontractors, supervise installation and construction activities, and conduct site surveys—ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget.
- Adaptability & High Mobility : With a travel rate over 60% (after training period Installation and commissioning at the customer site primarily covering Europe with occasionnal assignments to Asia and Africa, assignments from a couple of weeks to months depending on the workload and progress report, flexibility and readiness to work in diverse environments are crucial. You must also be able to handle a high volume of customer needs and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- Strong Communication & Documentation Skills : Success depends on your ability to promote efficient information flow, maintain accurate records of commissioned equipment, and perform clear, professional handovers during Site Acceptance Tests (SATs).
System integration and commissioning
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to ensure seamless integration of the PLC with other engine and power system components.
- Develop and implement PLC programs using various platforms, such as Rockwell Automation and Siemens, to control generator paralleling switchgear, load management, and microgrid applications.
- Work with equipment vendors and suppliers during the design and integration process.
- Provide technical support and oversee the installation, startup, and commissioning of new control systems at customer sites.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans for control systems to maximize reliability.
Troubleshooting and support
- Lead the support and debugging of complex system problems and change requests related to control logic.
- Perform root cause analysis for control system failures and implement robust, data‑based solutions to prevent future incidents.
- Provide advanced technical support to the manufacturing, testing, and field services teams.
- Communicate with customers to address concerns, troubleshoot issues, and identify solutions.
Documentation and compliance
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including functional specifications, schematics, bills of material, and operation manuals.
- Conduct design reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness of designs.
- Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes and standards, such as NFPA, NEC, and UL.
- Prepare cost estimates, compile equipment information, and draft appropriation requests for new projects.
Required skills and experience
Education and experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Controls, or Automation Engineering.
- 3-5 years of experience in controls engineering, preferably in the power generation or industrial automation sector.
- Experience with generator, Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS), and switchgear systems is often preferred.
Technical skills
- Proficiency in PLC programming using multiple platforms like Rockwell (Allen‑Bradley) and Siemens.
