Description

The New Product Development Loudspeaker Engineer works closely with the Chief Loudspeaker Engineer and Product Management in designing and developing production-scale, high-performance loudspeakers for the James and Sonance brands. This highly technical role requires someone who can develop and deliver results to complex and demanding engineering problems using modern techniques and methods.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in the design of loudspeaker systems and room/outdoor acoustics: enclosure/box alignment and design, transducer operation and design, crossover design, amplifier operation
  • Ability to use software simulation and design tools for loudspeaker development
  • Familiarity with Custom Integration market, products, customer needs, and challenges unique to the market
  • Passion for audio & sound with a hunger to always learn more (techniques, tools, technology)
  • Maintain an exceptionally high standard of quality, design, and engineering excellence
  • Flexible availability for successful communication with internal team members and partners across global time zones (Americas, Europe, Asia)
  • Occasional travel both domestically and internationally for supplier visits, research, customer visits, trade shows, and team meetings
  • Works effectively in a team-based atmosphere where collaboration is necessary
  • Successfully establish and maintain positive, productive, ego-free relationships across the organization
  • Time-management skills to maintain schedules and meet deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Design solutions for high-performance loudspeakers for James and Sonance brands
  • Build plan & workflow for development of Custom Speaker crossovers, voicing, and DSP Presets
  • Design crossovers and other electronic systems as needed
  • Research and evaluate new technologies related to transducers and loudspeaker systems
  • Collaborate effectively with domestic and international suppliers to communicate project requirements, collaborate with supplier engineering teams, and troubleshoot issues—always representing the company in a positive, professional manner
  • Consistently adhere to the Sonance/James product development process and contribute to team discussion and implementation of improvements to the process
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations as required
  • Support product management and marketing with product information
  • Support in product demonstrations internally and externally

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an audio-related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of related acoustic engineering experience.
  • Thorough understanding of fundamental acoustic engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in the use of the following hardware and software: Klippel, REW, VituixCAD, Audio Precision, FineMotor, FEMM, Comsol.
