Offer Description
ICRA is seeking to hire an advanced postdoctoral research fellow with strong background in analytical chemistry to work in a research project funded by the Spanish State Research Agency of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and Universities and the European Regional Development Fund. Project code: PID OB-C21; MICIU /AEI / / / FEDER, UE); Project GGSolutions.
The successful applicant will conduct independent research on the monitoring of emerging pollutants in aquatic and biota samples through advanced analytical methods. The work includes the application of in-house methods for the analysis of emerging pollutants in water and vegetable samples, as well as the development and application of complementary methods for the analysis of target contaminants in the analysed samples.
Experience in liquid chromatography – mass spectrometry (LC – MS) is essential; experience with high‑resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) and knowledge of nature‑based solutions are recommended.
Key Duties
- Applying analytical methodologies for the analysis of emerging contaminants in aqueous and vegetal samples.
- Evaluating the presence of emerging contaminants in water and vegetable samples using advanced analytical methods.
- Drafting protocols, scientific reports, and scientific articles.
- Allocating a small proportion of time to common laboratory services such as joint laboratory maintenance.
PhD in Environmental Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or Environmental Science required.
Skills
Experience in planning field experiments and monitoring of emerging pollutants.
Experience in handling and extraction of water and biota samples, and analysis with mass spectrometry methods (including HRMS); data management software.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Creative, flexible, and eager to learn and expand their scientific network.
Required Languages
English, Catalan, and Spanish.
Required Experience
- Experience in laboratory and field studies and monitoring campaigns.
- Experience in handling and analysis of environmental samples (including water and plants).
- Demonstrated experience in environmental and analytical chemistry for the determination of organic pollutants (pharmaceuticals, etc.).
- Knowledge in studying the fate of emerging pollutants in the environment.
- Experience in platform presentations and in the preparation of papers/reports.
- Experience with high‑resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) for analysis of suspect and non‑target substances and related software.
- Knowledge of nature‑based solutions for wastewater treatment, especially constructed wetlands, regarding the presence and fate of organic micropollutants.
