The tumor microenvironment lab, part of ONCOMET, at the Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela (IDIS), is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join our team.
Our group studies new therapeutic strategies in high grade gliomas based on biophysical strategies, with a particular focus on the immune and non-immune tumor microenvironment.
We are located at the University Clinical Hospital of Santiago de Compostela, and we have a daily and fluent connection with the Medical Oncology, Neurosurgery, Radiotherapy and Neuroimaging clinical departments, which makes our research highly translational.
About the project
The GlioProof project, funded in the private-public collaboration call (AEI), will be developed in close collaboration with Batea Oncology, a startup developing therapeutic solutions for Glioblastoma patients, as well as with 3 leading hospitals in Spain.
The project has a strong clinical orientation, as it aims at bringing a biomaterial-based therapeutic strategy to a Phase I clinical trial in Glioblastoma patients.
As well, we will perform fundamental/translational research in order to deepen into the mechanisms of action of such biomaterials, as well as in exploring new potential therapeutic combinations.
Tasks
- Perform 2D/3D in vitro assays with biomaterials and cellular models, including primary glioma organoids.
- Develop new potential models.
- Monitor cell behaviour applying flow cytometry, advanced microscopy, RNA-Seq and proteomic based techniques, among others.
- Perform in vivo experiments, including orthotopic glioma models (mice and rats, immunocompetent and immunodeficient), or others.
- Study the combined effects of biomaterial implants with radiation/chemotherapy or immunotherapies.
- Analyze patient-derived samples (tissue and blood) from patients recruited in the Phase I trial.
- Actively collaborate with other projects in the lab, as well as with national and international partners.
Requirements
- PhD in cancer biology, biotechnology, bioengineering or related field.
- Experience with cell culture, primary cell culture/organoids will be an asset.
- Demonstrated experience with animal models.
- Having an active animal experimentation license is a must.
- Fast learning and able to conduct experiments independently.
- Good writing data plotting skills.
- Presentation skills will be valued.
- Strong organizational skills, working comfortably in a fast-paced environment.
- Easy-going, collaborative, enthusiastic, proactive person, able to work in multidisciplinary environments.
- Fluent in English, Spanish is an asset but not required.
