Senior Software Engineer - Permission & Identity team

About the role

Own and evolve PayFit’s permissions and identity platform—raising reliability, performance and developer ergonomics so every domain team ships secure, simple experiences. Your work will build the foundation for trust, compliance and the rapid delivery of new product features.

Position Overview

As a senior engineer, you will design and implement a modern authorization system, expose well‑defined APIs and SDKs, reduce auth‑related incidents, and strengthen observability and documentation.

  • Roll out a clear, scalable authorization model and developer‑friendly APIs/SDKs that teams adopt quickly
  • Reduce auth‑related incidents and alert noise; meet SLOs for reliability and latency with measurable gains
  • Strengthen observability and documentation (decision logs/policies) to shorten MTTR

What Will You Do

  • Design and evolve permissions/identity services with clear contracts, isolation, and failure handling
  • Provide product‑ready building blocks (APIs, SDKs, policies), examples and guides for easy adoption
  • Instrument meaningful metrics and traces; reduce alert noise; improve detection and response
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Compliance and Customer Success to deliver secure, simple user experiences
  • Mentor peers and elevate engineering craft through reviews, pairing and knowledge sharing

This Role is For You If – Must‑Hold Skills

  • 7+ years as a Software Engineer (backend/platform), ideally with secure, multi‑tenant systems and Typescript experience
  • Strong system design and backend engineering experience in SaaS platforms
  • Focus on code quality, testing and maintainability
  • Skilled in observability (signals, alerts, SLOs) and incident response
  • Effective cross‑functional communication, customer‑facing mindset
  • Proven record of improving reliability, performance and shipping safe changes at scale
  • Clear documentation and mentoring ability
  • Project and dependency management experience
  • Fluent in English (Spanish or French a plus)

Nice‑to‑Have Skills

  • Auth & authorization knowledge (RBAC, ReBAC, ABAC)
  • Event‑Driven Architecture and Domain‑Driven Design experience
  • Policy‑as‑code or advanced authorization models
  • Public contributions (talks, OSS, posts)
