This Position reports to:

R&D Local Unit Lead

Overview

You will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB’s success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and document new and existing power electronic products, including electrical modeling of power semiconductors and gate driver circuits. Simulate circuit breakers for various applications and support thermal design through loss and efficiency estimations.
• Identify and select suitable components, collaborating with suppliers to assess technical feasibility and ensure alignment with design requirements.
• Build and test simulation models and hardware prototypes. Perform hands-on testing, troubleshooting, and data collection for both new and existing products.
• Analyze test results to optimize designs and prepare technical reports. Work closely with cross-functional teams on control, testing, and layout tasks, maintaining thorough documentation throughout the process.

Qualifications

• MS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
• Enhanced knowledge in design and analysis of power conversion topologies. Familiar with power semiconductors (modules and discrete) technologies, thermal and electrical simulation tools (Ansys Maxwell/Icepak, SIMetrix, PLECS, Matlab/Simulink…)
• Experience in designing, building, and testing prototype converters, with expertise in component placement for insulation voltage, cooling, signal integrity, and EMC considerations. Familiar with standard PCB design software packages (Altium Designer...)
• Proficiency in using digital oscilloscopes and other laboratory measurement equipment (spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, impedance analyzers, etc.) and familiarity with MATLAB, Python (NumPy), or similar tools. Experience with SPICE-based simulation tools and tools such as LTspice, PLECS, Simulink. Experience in low voltage power conversion industries and DC applications.
• Good communication skills and ability to work in a team with a positive attitude.
• Fluent in English.
