Category Buyer Food Manufacturing Up to £40,000 Birmingham Full Time | On-site An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Category Buyer to join a well-established food manufacturing business supplying major UK retailers. This is a pivotal role within the commercial team, responsible for managing and optimising the sourcing of raw materials and ingredients across a fast-paced, chilled food environment. You’ll play a key part in supplier management, cost control, and ensuring materials are available to support production plans. Key Responsibilities Source and procure raw materials and ingredients to meet production and NPD requirements. Negotiate supplier agreements, pricing, and contract terms to achieve best total cost of ownership. Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, while identifying new sourcing opportunities. Monitor supplier performance to ensure quality, delivery, and compliance standards are met. Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Technical, NPD, and Warehousing teams. Analyse market trends and identify cost-saving or efficiency opportunities. Support new product trials and ensure continuity of approved supplier lists. Contribute to procurement process improvements and drive continuous value delivery. About You 2–4 years’ experience in procurement, within food manufacturing or FMCG. Strong negotiation and supplier management skills. Confident communicator with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams. Comfortable working under pressure and managing multiple priorities. ERP / Excel system experience and strong attention to detail.
