Locum Consultant Radiologist with interest in Upper GI Imaging

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled radiologist with a subspecialty interest in Upper Gastrointestinal (Upper GI) imaging to join our team at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Upper GI imaging service is a key part of the Radiology Department, supporting diagnosis, staging and post-treatment surveillance for upper GI conditions, including oesophageal and gastric cancers. The service integrates with the Trust’s upper GI surgical, gastroenterology, pathology and oncology teams as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach. The Trust performs a high volume of GI diagnostics and procedures, with radiology taking a central role in staging, surveillance and emergency imaging.

The successful candidate will be expected to attend and contribute to weekly Upper GI MDT meetings (1:4 MDT rota) and to participate in the development and implementation of policy and management of radiology services. The role includes supervision and performance of barium/contrast procedures, teaching and supervising radiology trainees and junior radiologists, and ensuring high service standards.

There is an on-call service for general radiology, consultant-led, with reporting of urgent acute events (AE) and inpatient CT scans from 17:00 to 20:00 and 08:00 to 09:00 on weekdays, and 08:00 to 18:00 on weekends.

Applicants should have prior experience in Upper GI imaging, strong interpretative and reporting skills, and a commitment to continuing professional development. The role requires cross-sectional imaging capabilities and involvement in the supervision of and participation in CT and other radiology procedures. Teaching and supervising radiology trainees and junior radiologists is part of the responsibilities. The post will form part of a departmental team dedicated to high-quality patient care.

Location: Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (KGH Goodmayes and Queens Hospital Romford).

Minimum requirements include a relevant radiology qualification, demonstrable Upper GI imaging experience, and the ability to work within an MDT environment and with multidisciplinary colleagues.
