What skills and experience we’re looking for

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership and strategic development of the Faculty in line with the Academy improvement priorities
  • Ensuring that the performance targets in relation to student progress are met across all subjects within the Faculty at KS3 and 4
  • Exercising professional skills and judgement in effectively leading, managing and further developing the designated areas of the curriculum
  • Implementing the Teaching and learning framework of the Academy within the designated curriculum area including staff CPD
  • Systematically monitoring, review and evaluation of policy and practice within the Faculty
  • Being highly respected and able to motivate others – to lead, develop and enhance the continuing professional development of the department
  • Liaise effectively with Year Leaders to embed the Behaviour for Learning policy across the Faculty
  • The implementation of whole Academy policy and practice
  • Create a distinctive learning environment within the designated area of the school that inspires students
  • Contributing as appropriate to whole Academy and wider community development
  • Undertaking professional duties and administrative tasks as reasonably delegated by the Principal
  • Participating in whole Academy planning and policy making
  • Attending staff and other Academy committees and meetings; holding minuted subject meetings in line with Academy policy, involving staff in decision making and reporting back discussions and decisions of other appropriate committees and working groups
  • Liaison with appropriate agencies outside of Academy, e.g. Trust leads and inspectors, industry, business and the wider community
  • Have oversight of the Faculty budgets and expenditure
  • Line‑management of a significant number of staff, including the leadership and support of the staff team
  • Supporting and enhancing the social, moral, spiritual and cultural development of students, both within the designated area and across the school
  • Responsibility for the monitoring of all examination entries and the ongoing review of accreditation opportunities

TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Have a thorough and up to date knowledge of their subject(s) and should take account of wider curriculum developments that are relevant to their work
  • Consistently and effectively plan lessons and sequences of lessons to meet students’ individual learning needs, including students with special educational needs, and gifted or talented students. They should be aware of, and take proper account of the strategies agreed in IEPs (Individual Education Plans)
  • Keep an attendance register of students in every lesson and following up absence when necessary
  • Consistently and effectively use a range of appropriate strategies for teaching and classroom management
  • Consistently and effectively use information about prior attainment to set well‑grounded expectations for students, and monitor progress to give clear and constructive feedback
  • Be able to make use of the performance data available in the Academy in order to determine how much progress their students are making
  • Take responsibility for their own professional development and use the outcomes to improve their teaching and students’ learning
  • Make an active contribution to implementing the policies and aspirations of the Academy and Trust
  • Be effective professionals who challenge and support all students to do their best
  • Set and maintain high expectations for student behaviour
  • Set a good example to students, for example in terms of appropriate dress, standards of punctuality and attendance
