The Specialty Medicine Directorate are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and suitably qualified who will support the Diabetes Team working 24 hours per week to cover the needs of the service.

To contribute to the provision of administration duties by providing a professional, confidential and comprehensive administrative support to the Diabetes Team.

The role requires the undertaking of a range of administrative and clerical duties including keyboard skills, using a variety of IT applications, data input, answering the telephone and managing calls, maintenance of records systems, dealing with incoming correspondence and arranging client appointments.

The job entails contact with patients, their relatives and other professionals who phone into the team.

The post holder is expected to work flexibly in order to support the service and will be required to carry out reception duties.

Person specification

Knowledge

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience, skills and knowledge. Hold RSA/OCR Level 3 or possess equivalent experience/skills. Knowledge of hospital IT/Patient management systems i.e. WPAS Myrddin
  • Good knowledge of medical terminology European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

Experience

  • Previous experience of working in a healthcare setting. Ability to use Microsoft Office applications. Working within clinical services in a busy office/clinical environment. Experience of working and using own initiative and as part of a team. Experience of dealing with the general public. Experience of databases.
  • Previous Medical Secretary experience

Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Computer literate e.g. Office software packages. Able to determine and manage priorities. Excellent customer care skills. Good IT skills. Clerical Skills.
  • Welsh language speaking/listening at Level 3 or above
