Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join a dynamic team of Consultants at the Eye Unit of the Royal United Hospital. The post is for a replacement consultant. A special interest in cornea is desirable, although other special interest to complement the department would be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Highly experienced cataract surgeon capable of high throughput surgery and able to perform other general ophthalmic surgical procedures commensurate with experience and special interest.
• Expected to perform share of general ophthalmology along with current consultants and to conduct clinics and operating lists in area of interest.
• Base at RUH and community clinics with strong commitment to peripheral clinics; clinics currently provided in Chippenham, Trowbridge and Frome.
• Participate in audit and directorate meetings and undertake administrative duties as required by Lead Clinician of Ophthalmology.
• Maintain professional expertise by attending meetings and courses; completion of diaries for CME essential. Annual appraisal required.
• Interest in research and teaching expected; participation in projects, courses, etc. to enhance standing of department and Trust.

Qualifications

• Essential: FRCOphth, Full Licence, GMC Registration.
• Desirable: Higher Degree.

Knowledge

• Essential: Competent to perform high volume cataract surgery.
• Desirable: Fellowship in cornea.

Skills

• Essential: Experience of supervising junior doctors. Ability to teach clinical skills.
• Desirable: Experience of supervising SPRs.
