Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a full-time, permanent Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to join the multidisciplinary team at Rathbone Low Secure Unit in Liverpool.

About the Service

Rathbone Low Secure Unit provides specialist forensic mental health care for detained male patients with mental disorders who present a significant risk to others and require treatment in a secure setting. The unit has 32 beds across two wards and serves a population of roughly 330,000 across North and South Liverpool, South Sefton and part of Kirkby.

The Role

The successful candidate will act as the Responsible Clinician for a caseload of 16 male inpatients. Responsibilities include preadmission planning, MDT meetings, clinical pathway reviews and discharge planning. The post requires liaison with agencies such as the Ministry of Justice, police, probation, social care and other mental health services, and statutory reporting under Restriction Orders.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead on the assessment and management of patients referred from secure services, general adult services, courts or prisons.
• Participate in weekly referral and panel meetings across the Merseyside and Cheshire region.
• Provide supervision to junior doctors and Physician Associates.
• Attend clinical team and service‑related meetings as appropriate.
