Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Optometrist to join our Hospital Optometry team on a 12-month fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. This post will provide valuable experience within hospital optometry across both University Hospital Coventry and Hospital of St Cross. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists and Nursing staff.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive core optometric services, including refraction (routine, diagnostic and paediatric), theatre refractions and visual impairment rehabilitation.
- Manage in-house spectacle dispensing and eye casualty triage service.
- Provide specialist medical contact lens management (keratoconus, post-graft, high myopia/hyperopia, cosmetic, diagnostic).
- Support our educational programme for pre-registration optometrists and actively train ophthalmologists, nurses and other professionals within the organisation.
- Participate in audit frameworks and cooperate fully in any audit of clinical work and competency assessments undertaken by the leads and management.
- Contribute to the Saturday morning Eye Casualty Triage service as required.
- May have an opportunity to work within the Cataract service depending on experience and qualifications.
Qualifications & Requirements
The post is open to both newly qualified and experienced Optometrists. Successful applicants will play a crucial role in supporting our educational programme for pre-registration optometrists and will actively train ophthalmologists, nurses and other professionals within our organisation. The post will be offered at Band 6 or Band 7 depending on the successful applicantβs qualifications and prior experience.
To join this full-time position you will work Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm and an additional Saturday morning on a rotational basis. Secondment will be considered for internal candidates. If you are successful after interview you must obtain approval from your current line manager to accept the offer. Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
