Fire Safety Advisor

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Health, Safety, Fire and Security team here at Great Western Hospital as a Fire Safety Advisor. This is a significantly important role to support the safety of all patients, staff and others who use our buildings.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide fire risk assessments across a range of hospital buildings and healthcare premises. They will provide comprehensive fire safety advice and training to the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundations Trust, to ensure the organisation achieves compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Department of Health's suite of Technical Memoranda 'Firecode', and all other fire safety guidance, standards, and regulations. This post will report to the Associate Director of Health, Safety, Fire and Security.

In summary,

  • To provide fire safety advice to all staff and others
  • To provide comprehensive and accurate fire related reports
  • To complete fire risk assessments for all departments including clinical and non-clinical areas
  • To develop and deliver fire safety training programmes
  • Support staff with their fire evacuation plans and other specialist fire safety documents
  • Support the development of the Trust Fire Warden programme
  • To maintain oversight of any fire risks on the Trust Risk Register

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety or equivalent
  • Level 5 certificated fire risk assessors' course

Experience

  • Experience of working in and providing fire safety advice within a large public sector organisation
  • Delivering fire safety training with a minimum of three years experience
  • Extensive experience in writing complex and structured reports and documents
  • Experience in writing complex fire risk assessments for high risk buildings

Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and the Building Safety Act
  • Extensive understanding of COSHH regulations
  • Knowledge of Health Technical Memoranda and experience in interpreting these

Skills

  • Able to communicate with staff at all levels in the organisation including Senior Managers
  • Able to develop the skills and knowledge of staff, including Senior Managers, to ensure they fully understand their responsibilities under fire safety legislation
  • Able to develop and maintain communication with colleagues across different organisations
  • Highly developed IT skills
  • Flexible approach to problem solving
  • Able to work in other geographical areas of the Trust
  • Highly motivated and willing to work autonomously and as part of a team

Pay

£38,682 to £46,580 a year, pro rata
