Job Title: Teaching & Learning Mentor (Health and Care)
Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent, Lecturer
Salary Scale: Lecturer Scale, Pt 16 – Pt 18, from £43,562.56 to £46,360.97 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week
Abatement: 6 hours per week
Teaching hours: 660 hours per annum, teaching hours to be completed within the Health & Social Care Faculty
Annual Leave: 42 days per annum, plus statutory Bank Holidays
Pension: Teachers’ Pension Scheme
About The Role This exciting opportunity offers additional responsibilities alongside your teaching role. As a Teaching & Learning Mentor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of teaching excellence at Middlesbrough College. You will support staff development, enhance pedagogical practices, and contribute to the College’s ambition to become an outstanding provider of education and training.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Group Director Teaching, Learning and Assessment, and mentors across College.
- Design and deliver innovative staff development sessions.
- Participate in the review and moderation of the lesson observation scheme.
- Conduct classroom observations, including those subject to external validation.
- Promote Technology Enhanced Learning strategies.
- Identify and address barriers to effective teaching and learning.
- Support curriculum teams with tailored development plans.
- Mentor individuals and groups to improve teaching quality and student outcomes.
Lecturing Duties
- Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive lessons tailored to student needs.
- Create a positive and safe learning environment.
- Use varied teaching techniques and resources.
- Deliver assessments aligned with Middlesbrough College standards.
- Maintain accurate records and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Participate in internal verification and Awarding Body visits.
- Support students beyond the classroom when needed.
- Engage in continuous professional development and industrial updating.
Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant subject.
- Teaching qualification.
- GCSE Grade 4 or above in Maths and English or equivalent.
- Proven record of good or outstanding teaching practice.
Experience
- Significant, successful, and current teaching experience.
- Experience in mentoring or coaching.
- Experience supporting staff development.
- Current knowledge and experience of teaching Health and Social Care.
- Current knowledge of potential issues in Health and Social Care.
- Current knowledge and experience of one or more fields of Health and Social Care.
Knowledge & Skills
- Up-to-date knowledge of technology-enhanced learning.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time management and organisation.
- Ability to share best practices and manage classroom behaviour effectively.
