Overview
The Environment Agency is seeking a Commercial Services Manager to support the team overseeing the commercial governance of contracts with key consultancies and contractors. The role contributes to delivering sustainable outcomes, maximising value for money, and embedding best practices through pathfinder programmes and long‑term collaborative partnerships.
Responsibilities
- Support the Commercial Assurance and Framework Management Team in providing country‑wide governance and commercial assurance to Integrated Delivery Management teams and the wider Project Management community.
- Develop and manage contracts with key consultancies and contractors, ensuring value for money and effective governance.
- Set up and manage pathfinder programmes that embed best practice and foster long‑term collaborative partnerships.
- Collaborate with delivery hubs to support national objectives and ensure sustainable delivery outcomes.
- Undertake required training and participate in incident response duties as part of EA operations.
- Prepare and maintain documentation, minutes, and reports; demonstrate strong administration and data management skills.
Experience / Skills / Qualifications
- Essential education/skills: A‑Level qualifications, Level 3 qualifications or equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills; skilled communicator with stakeholder management experience.
- Strong data and document management capabilities.
- Commercial acumen: ability to understand and analyse business situations, take proportionate risks, and deliver value for money; demonstrates curiosity and drive.
- Ability to write minutes and draft reports; good administration and organisational skills.
- Willingness to shadow and pursue long‑term professional qualifications (e.g., NEC training, CIPS); confidence to ask questions to drive development.
- Interest in infrastructure, construction, or environmental programmes.
- Desirable: Degree or equivalent; status with professional bodies (e.g., ICE, CIWEM, APM, CIPS, RICS); formal training in contract management (e.g., NEC, Contract Management Capability Programme).
- Commercial governance and contract management experience within public or regulated environments is advantageous.
