About the role
You will be a central member of the Strategic Design and Transition Programme, working to interpret the Independent Water Commission’s report recommendations for the future of the Environment Agency. You will help shape the agency’s future model, develop strategic plans and ensure the EA continues to protect and enhance the environment while supporting sustainable growth.
Responsibilities
- Provide high‑quality, balanced and evidence‑based advice to support future thinking in light of the IWC report recommendations, particularly the recommendation to create a single water regulator.
- Engage with colleagues across government, within the EA and other regulators to align thinking and secure stakeholder support.
- Embrace constructive challenge and diverse thinking while keeping pace in a fast‑moving environment.
- Take a flexible approach and support other projects and workstreams within the programme as needed.
- Act as an active member of the programme team, contributing to a high‑performing, agile and resilient culture.
Experience & Skills Required
- Experience of working with central government to develop policy, including collaboration with specialists such as economists and scientists.
- Strategic thinking and the ability to act judiciously.
- Excellent communication and engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex or ambiguous issues into simple, targeted advice, often at short notice.
- Experience of working across boundaries and influencing at all levels.
