Are you an experienced Town Planner ready to step into a more senior role in a city with both historic character and exciting development prospects? We're working with a well-established and growing planning consultancy based in York , seeking a Senior Planner to help lead and deliver a wide range of planning projects across Yorkshire and the wider North.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially minded planner who’s looking for a strong next step – whether you’re already operating at senior level or ready to move up from a planner role with more autonomy and responsibility.


The Role:

As a Senior Planner, you’ll play a key role in managing planning applications, advising clients, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to the strategic growth of the business. Projects span residential, commercial, heritage, and mixed-use developments – offering great variety and challenge.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading on the preparation, submission and management of complex planning applications and appeals

  • Delivering expert planning advice to clients and stakeholders

  • Representing clients at committee meetings and public consultations

  • Conducting site appraisals and feasibility assessments

  • Supporting business development, including attending networking events and preparing proposals

  • Mentoring junior members of the team and reviewing their work


What We’re Looking For:

  • Degree in Town Planning or related discipline

  • MRTPI qualified

  • 4+ years of experience in town planning (ideally within a consultancy or similar environment)

  • Strong project management and client-facing skills

  • Excellent understanding of the UK planning system, with knowledge of local Yorkshire policies a bonus

  • Commercially astute, self-motivated, and well-organised
