Job Title: Bus Driver 
Job-Type: Full Time (30 hours a week) 
Salary: $31,416 annualized  
Contract Days: 187 Days 
Reports to: Transportation Manager

ABOUT WAYSIDE SCHOOLS: Wayside Schools is an open-enrollment, tuition-free Pre-K3-12 th grade public charter 
school network that provides over 2,100 scholars across its four South Austin campuses with a rigorous International 
Baccalaureate education. Since 2012, Wayside schools has striven to empower historically underserved scholars, 
providing them with the instructional experiences, academics skills, intellectual habits and social and emotional 
competencies needed to become graduates from four-year colleges and universities, providing them with the access 
and opportunities they need to narrate their own futures and positively impact and empower the families and

Job Goal: 
Operate school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other 
authorized persons on assigned route and to and from other designated locations. 
Qualifications: 
• High School Diploma 
• Five years' experience (Preferred) 
Requirements 
• Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements 
• Clear driving record 
• In good standing with the Department of Transportation 
• Annual physical exam 
• Unannounced alcohol and drug tests 
Skills and Mindset Requirements: 
• Bilingual in English/Spanish-able to speak, read and write in both languages (preferred) 
• Drive the bus daily following the assigned route and adhering to established schedules. 
• Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities. 
• Perform pre-and post-trip inspections according to specifications to ensure the bus can be operated safely 
and notify the supervisor or maintenance of needed repairs. Keep the assigned bus clean and maintain the 
appropriate level of fuel. 
• Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries and mechanical problems and complete required 
corresponding reports. 
• Anticipate problems such as traffic, weather, road conditions and schedule changes and make necessary 
adjustments to ensure student safety and reduce delays. 
• Assist in the preventive maintenance of the bus. Student Management 
• Instruct students on safe entering, exiting and passenger rules and regulations. Supervise students while 
they board and leave the bus and cross the street. 
• Perform emergency evacuation of students on the bus when the situation warrants. 
• Maintain discipline and use effective behavior management control over groups of students. Report student 
discipline problems to appropriate administrators and communicate with teachers and parents regarding 
student's behavior when warranted. Page 2 of 2 Safety 
• Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses and use effective defensive driving 
techniques. 
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. 
• Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses and 
reflector triangles. 
• Correct unsafe conditions in the work area that could cause an accident and inform the supervisor of any 
conditions that are not correctable immediately. 
• Maintain valid Texas School Bus Certification. Other 
• Attend and successfully complete all required training to maintain safety certification. 
• Keep records on bus mileage, seat assignment and number of passengers transported. 
• Maintain emotional control under stress.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: 
Operate school bus, two-way radio, Global Positioning System (GPS), student accountability software, safety 
equipment including but not limited to reflective signs and fire extinguisher. Posture: Continual sitting, bending, 
stooping, stretching, twisting, turning, pulling (approximately 20 lbs.). Motion: Reaching, climbing, repetitive hand/arm 
motions, and walking. Lifting: Lifting (approximately 50 pounds for 5 feet) and carrying. Environment: Work outside 
and inside, possibility of extended hours, moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, intermittent noise, and 
exhaust fumes.

The hours are 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., however, from time to time may work an extended 
schedule, including weekends and evenings according to demands of the role and tasks. In accordance with
