🚀 VP Security Operations (Retail/Commercial)

Position Summary

Our client is seeking a retail security subject matter expert to launch their Security division. Using your extensive industry knowledge, you will work with their marketing and product development team to design products and solutions for commercial clients, with a primary focus on retail. You will develop the operational strategy for the security segment and help create strategic partnerships. You will report to the COO and work out of HQ with a moderate amount of travel in the role.

Role and Responsibilities

• Analyze the retail/commercial security market and identify potential business opportunities where current products and future product lines fit.
• Develop a strategy to differentiate the company in loss prevention and perimeter protection (e.g. parking lots & ingress/egress points) of commercial establishments.
• Create an operational strategy for deploying and managing the solution created: physical equipment, hosting solution, and software deployment & management.
• Establish relationships and new business opportunities with large-scale commercial customers.
• Create relationships with strategic partners to enhance our product and service offerings.
• Connect internal team members with industry experts and decision-makers.
• Manage and grow security operations division.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Security, Computer Science or equivalent.
• Master’s degree preferred, with focus on technology, security, or related subject matter.
• 10+ years’ experience in the security industry, preferably in large retail establishments, or with companies that service the commercial security sector.
• Minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role in loss prevention/asset protection, with P&L responsibility
• Proven track record of developing and managing security programs in large retail or comparable commercial environments.
• History of creating policies, standards, and guidelines.
• Experience deploying and operating surveillance and VMS systems and analytics.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of modern fraud reduction, safety procedures, and crime prevention techniques.
• Strong analytical ability and proficiency in using and deploying analytics in large-scale environments.
• Solid technical understanding of video-based solutions, preferably within an AI framework.
• Extensive knowledge of VMS systems and applications within the target market.
• Experience with camera systems and hardware, and understanding of deployment platforms (e.g. fixed sites, trailers, vehicle-based).

Additional information about the role

1. Have experience running an enterprise-wide security operation, preferably in the retail space, OR work for companies that deploy technology and provide consulting or solutions to retailers and commercial customers on an enterprise basis.
2. Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a technical discipline, although business is acceptable – Masters or MBA preferred.
3. Experience developing new products, solutions, programs, or divisions (requires familiarity with security principles, understanding of the market, understanding of the technology, and familiarity with business development – bringing relationships in the door is a strong plus).
4. Familiarity with security delivery mechanisms (e.g. hardware) such as cameras, trailers, mobile units, etc.
5. Experience with VMS applications and deployment within enterprise environments.
6. Focus on “perimeter protection” (e.g. parking lots, roadways, etc.).
7. Familiarity with law enforcement integration a plus.

The first specific objective is to analyze the entire security market, with focus on enterprise/nationwide retail, and create a business plan to address and attack – with an ultimate top line goal of $100M within 3 years. Understanding of the trailer space, as it applies to security, is important. Understanding of analytics, VMS platforms, and monitoring services is important.

The initial concept is to create a trailer that can be mass produced, with a multitude of security features including their vehicle recognition software, and deployed in retail parking lots with a central monitoring system that they also provide.
