Overview

The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 1 with the Specimen Procurement Team at Harborview Medical Center.

Are you passionate about science and ready to make a real impact on patient care? As a CLT 1, you will play a vital role in the diagnostic process of laboratory testing. You will process and prepare specimens for testing, perform blood draws on patients, and provide excellent customer service to influence timely and accurate diagnoses at UW Medicine and beyond. Our Specimen Procurement Team values diversity, collaboration, and a supportive work culture.

  • Fixed duration appointment
  • 100% FTE
  • Wednesday - Sunday
  • Night shift

What you’ll contribute

Perform Specimen Processing Activities | Play a key role in patient care by performing specimen processing tasks such as receiving, sorting and prioritizing specimens and requests; matching specimens against requisitions for appropriate tube type; centrifuging and aliquoting specimens; processing timed urine collections; resulting and reviewing entries for all reference lab testing; performing blood draws on patients; and performing various computer functions.

Provide Customer Service | Respond promptly, courteously, and professionally to inquiries from patients, clients, and hospital and laboratory staff.

Share Your Knowledge | Orienting and training new employees; participating in performance improvement activities and supporting the hospital in meeting JCAHO, CLIA, and CAP accreditation standards.

Utilize Problem-Solving Skills | Resolve specimen and order-related problems in a timely, thorough, and accurate manner and provide appropriate documentation for supervisor review.

What you’ll need

High school graduation or equivalent AND one (1) year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience

OR

Completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society for Clinical Pathology

OR

Equivalent education/experience.

Additional DLMP requirements

  • Completion of a Phlebotomy course
  • Medical Assistant – Phlebotomist (MA-P) certification with the Washington State Department of Health OR obtain the MA-P certification within 60 days of start date

Desired qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in science
  • Experience in a major medical hospital laboratory
  • Experience with a Laboratory Information System (LIS)
