Job Summary

Responsible for providing medication therapy management services, both clinical and distributive tasks as necessary, in collaboration with other providers to ensure drug therapy is safe, effective, efficient, and cost-effective. Pharmacy services include medication distribution, medication therapy monitoring, medication orders management, drug information, and drug dosing. Ensures patient care is maintained through compliance with department policies, rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Pharmacy and other regulatory bodies. Provides oversight and direction to Pharmacy Technicians; may provide training and onboarding for team members; acts independently within license scope with guidance from Pharmacy Leadership; may act as another pharmacy leader in their absence when designated.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides pharmaceutical care to patients, promotes optimal drug therapy, and ensures safe use of medications. Assesses patient-specific data, verifies medication orders, and oversees preparation, dispensing, distribution, and monitoring of all medications.
  • Collaborates with and educates pharmacy and medical staff, nurses, allied health professionals, patients and caregivers. Acts as a preceptor for learners as directed.
  • Manages care, quality, and costs by evaluating and improving medication utilization to enhance quality, safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of the medication use process.
  • Oversees and directs the work of other pharmacy staff and ensures service standards are met.
  • Participates in and/or provides direct patient care in any setting or capacity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience โ€“ Required

  • Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) required, unless graduated from a U.S. School of Pharmacy in or before 2003, or foreign equivalent.
  • Maryland Pharmacist License required.

Education & Experience โ€“ Preferred

  • 1 year experience preferred.

  • Maintains competency in pharmacy-related technology and supports training of team members when appropriate.

  • Attends hospital and departmental meetings; uses customer relations skills when interacting with patients and staff to ensure respectful care.
  • Represents the department on hospital committees and within professional groups where appropriate.
  • Participates in policy and guideline development pertaining to medication use and management.
  • Maintains awareness of UMMS operations and departmental communications; aligns with mission, vision, and values of UMMS.

  • Pay Range: $57.13-$85.75
