Data Scientist/Systems Engineer
Kelly Services is currently seeking a Data Scientist/Systems Engineer position for one of our top clients in Jacksonville, FL.

Responsibilities
You will be instrumental in improving equipment performance, ensuring compliance with FDA, ISO, and GMP standards, and supporting the deployment of innovative automation technologies. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who thrives in a hands‑on, problem‑solving environment. We are seeking a highly motivated and technically versatile Data Scientist/Systems Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team focused on building next‑generation medical imaging devices. In this role, you will work at the intersection of optical systems design, data engineering, medical imaging, and AI‑driven computer vision, contributing directly to the development of life‑changing diagnostic and surgical tools.
You will begin by supporting critical data collection and labeling efforts, then grow into broader responsibilities in AI model development, optical simulation, clinical image processing, and regulatory documentation.
- System Design & Development – Design, develop, and implement control systems including PLCs, HMIs, motion control, and robotics for automated manufacturing equipment.
- Troubleshooting & Optimization – Diagnose and resolve issues related to downtime, quality, and system performance. Continuously optimize equipment for safety, efficiency, and reliability.
- Regulatory Compliance – Ensure all automation systems comply with FDA regulations, ISO standards, and GMP requirements specific to medical device manufacturing.
- Documentation & Validation – Generate and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, support equipment validation activities, and ensure change control processes are followed.
- Process Improvement – Lead initiatives to implement new technologies, conduct root cause analysis for failures, and drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
- Commissioning & Support – Assist with the commissioning, upgrades, and troubleshooting of new and existing equipment. Provide training and support to maintenance and operations teams.
Optical Systems & Engineering
- Design, model, and simulate optical components and subsystems for compact medical imaging devices.
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to integrate optical designs into device hardware.
- Support optomechanical installations and systems validation activities.
Data & Image Pipeline Development
- Build and maintain data pipelines to ingest, store, and process large‑scale imaging datasets (e.g., DICOM).
- Develop robust image processing workflows including enhancement, denoising, segmentation, and filtering.
- Establish and enforce data governance protocols ensuring data quality, security, and HIPAA compliance.
- Manage the transfer and integration of data with clinical systems such as PACS.
AI & Computer Vision
- Design and implement machine learning and computer vision models for medical image analysis.
- Develop algorithms for segmentation, object detection, classification, and surgical scene understanding.
- Continuously iterate and optimize models based on real‑world clinical data and feedback.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in data science, optical systems, or medical imaging.
- Proficient in Python with libraries such as OpenCV, NumPy, Pandas, and Matplotlib.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.).
- Working knowledge of medical imaging formats such as DICOM and familiarity with clinical systems like PACS.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with optical design tools (e.g., Zemax, Code V).
- Familiarity with FDA regulations, SaMD, ISO 13485, 21 CFR Part 11.
- Prior experience in clinical trials, medical device, or regulated environments.
- Experience with cloud‑based data infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
