Overview
The Morsani College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine is looking for Academic Hospitalist Nocturnists (Open-Rank) with a desire to work the night service (7 pm - 7 am). The Academic Hospitalist provides inpatient care for patients in an academic medical setting. This role includes providing direct patient care, consulting with other medical staff, interpreting laboratory results, educating medical staff and students, and managing patient flow. The Academic Hospitalist will also be responsible for ensuring quality and safety standards are maintained, coordinating patient care within the hospital system, developing and implementing care protocols, and providing medical advice to referring physicians. In addition, the Academic Hospitalist may be responsible for presenting research projects to further advance the field of hospital medicine. Those BC/BE in Internal Medicine and/or Family Medicine are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Provide inpatient care and participate in our faculty group practice with more than 45 hospitalists.
- Teach medical staff and students; supervise residents on inpatient services and participate in resident/fellow education.
- Cover medical transplant patients, general internal medicine patients on teaching and nonteaching services, and provide medical and transplant medicine consultations.
- Co-manage surgical services as appropriate and provide oversight for patient flow and safety standards.
- Offer clinical services during overnight coverage (nocturnist focus) with an appropriate salary differential.
- Engage in development and implementation of care protocols and provide medical advice to referring physicians.
Qualifications
- Minimum :
- Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization, with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
- Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. For Associate/Full Professor, normally will have produced creative work or research and be a recognized authority in the field.
- Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent; obtain and maintain a full unrestricted FL Medical License, maintain credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan, and be a medical staff member in good standing at the hospitals assigned for clinical duties.
- Participation in teaching residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine.
- Preferred :
- 1-3 years of physician or hospitalist experience; experience in hospital medicine and at least one year in an academic medical center.
- Proven track record in teaching and/or clinical research; preference for candidates desiring to work as a nocturnist.
- Working at USF and affiliation with USF Health.
