Senior Data Scientist, Training Aircraft Readiness
SMX is seeking a Training Aircraft Readiness Senior Data Scientist to support the Naval Undergraduate Flight Training Systems Program Office (PMA 273) at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park, MD.
PMA-273 manages the acquisition, development, and maintenance of six trainer aircraft and related simulator suites, academic materials, and contractor logistics support.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead advanced training aircraft readiness analysis, applying statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and readiness metrics evaluation to identify trends, assess training aircraft readiness performance, and provide actionable insights that improve mission availability.
- Provide high‑level subject‑matter expertise, analysis, and technical guidance to support project execution.
Required Skills/Experience
- Clearance Required: Secret
- A master's degree in Management, Technical, or Scientific disciplines from an accredited university is required.
- Allowable substitution: a BS or BA in Business, Management, Technical, or Scientific disciplines and an additional four (4) years of recent and relevant experience.
- At least ten (10) years of recent and relevant experience in an engineering or operations analysis position, with three (3) years directly related to DoD systems.
- Demonstrated experience in engineering expertise.
- Proficiency in analyzing and extracting data from DoD aviation maintenance and logistics systems (e.g., NALDA, OOMA, DECKPLATE).
- Experience working with aircraft maintenance, logistics, and readiness data to evaluate fleet performance and operational availability.
- Knowledge of DoD aviation maintenance processes, readiness metrics (Full‑Mission Capable (FMC) & Mission Capable (MC) rates) and reporting standards.
- Ability to integrate data across multiple DoD systems to perform trend analysis, predictive maintenance forecasting, and readiness assessments.
- Familiarity with DoD data governance, security, and compliance requirements, including handling of controlled unclassified information (CUI).
- Experience building dashboards and readiness reports for senior leadership and program managers within defense organizations.
- Expertise in applying statistical and analytical methods directly to aircraft sustainment and operational readiness problems.
