Location: Kansas City, KS. Base salary: $150K–$200K with 10% Bonus and Vehicle Allowance .

We are seeking an accomplished Chief Estimator to lead preconstruction for a $100M+ mechanical construction contractor in Kansas City. This role will oversee all estimating activities for large-scale mechanical projects, including HVAC, piping, and plumbing scopes. The Chief Estimator will play a strategic leadership role, managing a team of estimators, qualifying bids, and ensuring accurate, competitive proposals that support company growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of 3+ mechanical estimators, ensuring precise, timely, and competitive bids
• Strategically plan preconstruction resources, aligning estimators and schedules with upcoming pursuits
• Review scopes of work and RFPs to identify risks, omissions, or discrepancies before bid submission
• Confirm subcontractor and vendor coverage for upcoming work, fostering strong trade partner relationships
• Oversee Bid Tabs to ensure costs, labor, and materials are properly captured and analyzed
• Partner with leadership to implement improvements in preconstruction processes and department structure
• Provide conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, and cost models for major pursuits in HVAC, piping, and plumbing
• Serve as a mentor to the estimating team, driving professional growth and accountability

Qualifications

• 2+ years as a Chief Estimator in mechanical construction (or Senior Estimator from a larger mechanical firm ready to advance)
• Experience with a $100M+ contractor strongly preferred
• Strong technical background in mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, piping) and related trades
• Proven ability to lead and manage multiple estimators on complex projects
• Expertise in reviewing mechanical scopes of work, drawings, and specifications
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
• Ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on estimating when required
