Product Designer, Principal Associate

Role Expectations

As a Product Designer, you’ll combine craft expertise with an understanding of our customers and the business to co-create innovative solutions to complex problems.

Competencies for this role include:

• Product Design Expertise: Leverage deep expertise across interaction, visual and service design to elevate the design practice; collaborate with cross-functional partners, use appropriate tools, platforms, frameworks and design systems, and create artifacts such as journey maps, blueprints, high-fidelity designs and prototypes
• Human-Centered: Champion the customer through the design process, considering data, research insights, scalability, technical constraints and feedback
• Business-Focused: Understand and apply business and customer strategy; facilitate design activities with the team and partners, balancing customer needs with business goals
• Problem-Solving: Explore tech and data capabilities, emerging technologies, and use this knowledge to inform work, identify opportunities and navigate technical limitations
• Collaboration: Build relationships with partners, listen to diverse viewpoints, influence outcomes, break down silos and align stakeholders
• Communication: Present work to diverse audiences using a human-centered approach that integrates design frameworks, data and research insights

The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio demonstrating process, results, and impact.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• At least 3 years of experience in a Product Design role
• At least 3 years of experience with design and prototyping tools, such as Figma

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 4 years of experience in a Product Design role
• At least 4 years of experience with design and prototyping tools, such as Figma
• At least 4 years of experience collaborating with product, tech and business partners
• At least 4 years of experience working with an established design system

• Experience working in heavily regulated, data heavy problem spaces

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries are for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and reflect the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based on hours.

McLean, VA: $127,500 - $145,500 for Principal Associate, Design

Richmond, VA: $115,900 - $132,200 for Principal Associate, Design

New York, NY: $139,100 - $158,700 for Principal Associate, Design

Candidates hired elsewhere will be subject to the pay range of that location; the actual salary offered will be in the offer letter.

This role may be eligible to earn performance-based incentives, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives, depending on the plan.
