🚀 Director of Engineering

Overview

Our client is seeking a forward-thinking Director of Engineering to lead all engineering, life-safety, and facility operations for one of Austin’s most distinctive luxury lifestyle hotels. Opened six years ago, this property blends contemporary architecture with authentic local character and was designed with sustainability at its core. The property holds LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, highlighting its commitment to eco-conscious innovation and responsible operations.

What You’ll Lead

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, train, and mentor a team of engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff.
• Conduct performance reviews and support career development plans.
• Ensure a culture of accountability, efficiency, and service excellence.

Facility Maintenance & Daily Operations

• Oversee the maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, elevators, mechanical systems, and life-safety equipment.
• Develop and execute preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and protect asset value.
• Ensure compliance with all building codes, OSHA standards, fire/life safety, and environmental regulations.

Budgeting & Capital Projects

• Manage departmental budgets, purchasing, and cost controls.
• Oversee capital improvements, renovations, equipment upgrades, and vendor contracts.
• Collaborate with ownership, design, and construction teams to complete projects on time and within budget.

Sustainability & Environmental Initiatives

• Implement LEED-focused energy, water, and waste reduction programs.
• Stay ahead of trends in green technology and responsible building operations.
• Champion innovation and environmental stewardship across the property.

Guest Experience & Safety

• Resolve engineering-related guest issues promptly with minimal disruption.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and lead emergency preparedness plans.
• Ensure safe working conditions for all employees and secure protection of hotel assets.

Ideal Candidate

• 5+ years in hotel engineering or facilities leadership, with 3+ years in a director or senior supervisory role.
• Experience in luxury or lifestyle hotels strongly preferred.
• Strong technical knowledge of building systems: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, life-safety.
• Proven success in budgeting, CapEx projects, vendor negotiations, and sustainability initiatives.
• Experience with LEED, energy management systems, or green building practices is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field preferred.

Compensation & Location

• Salary: Up to $155,000 base + bonus
• Location: Austin, TX Area
