Co-Op Overview

The successful candidate will be part of a team researching scale‑up from benchtop to manufacturing launch of crop protection formulations. You will independently work on developing and improving processes commonly found in state‑of‑the‑art agrochemical and pharmaceutical research laboratories.

Previous successful co‑ops have designed and performed experiments to bring novel technologies into the pilot plant, visited and worked directly with manufacturing sites to modify and improve their characterization methods, produced up to 150 liters of experimental product for global trials, and reported results and analysis to the team.

Work in the pilot will utilize and strengthen your learnings from all classes, including concepts from Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Controls, along with teaching you advanced concepts in solids handling and flows. You will be supported by a team of engineers in your research. Potential projects include trials of new technologies to be implemented in the pilot facility or at a manufacturing plant, helping bring online a new pilot production line, testing powder properties to develop a database, and assisting with characterizing novel formulations.

As part of the global research center for FMC, you will have opportunities to visit other departments and learn how each group collaborates to bring a product to market.

Highlights

  • If you decide to lead your project you will also present results at internal conferences and team meetings.
  • Over the period of 6 months you will likely be involved in more than one project and will be involved in some competency work, scale‑up and consulting.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new techniques and equipment, and design independent projects with them.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and basic office applications. Abilities with a coding language is a plus (e.g. C++, Visual Basic, or Python).
