This opportunity offers hands-on, meaningful work experience through WSP USA, with exposure to real projects and mentorship via the Developing Professionals Network.
Location and Timing
The co-op is based in the New England Civil Transportation Team, Boston, MA, with consideration for Worcester, MA. The position is for Spring 2026 (January 2026 through June 2026) and is currently for students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs through Northeastern University. No relocation or housing assistance is provided.
Responsibilities
- Gain experience working on public transportation engineering designs.
- Be part of public infrastructure projects that improve communities.
- Learn technical and professional transportation civil engineering skills.
- Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
- Assist with project research, field work, preliminary design calculations and analysis.
- Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
- Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering or related undergraduate program through Northeastern University with an anticipated graduation date July 2026 or later.
- Must be 18 or older.
- Demonstrated interest in Civil Engineering and a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
- Ability to take direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to execute projects.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and related tools.
- Commitment to workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and harassment policies.
- Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering or related Masters or PhD program through Northeastern University with anticipated graduation date July 2026 or later.
- Experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Bluebeam.
- Prior co-op/internship and campus leadership experience.
Compensation and Benefits
Estimated hourly compensation: $24.76 - $32.22. WSP provides a comprehensive benefits suite including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, retirement savings, paid time off, parental leave, and other legally required benefits.
