We want someone passionate about structural engineering and problem solving. SGH seeks a motivated and dynamic engineer to help grow our structural engineering practice in Southern California. The Structures Division works on a variety of project types including seismic retrofit of existing buildings, repair and rehabilitation, investigation and performance evaluation, adaptive re-use, new design, and more. We work in steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and composites and routinely use advanced analysis techniques.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Work on a wide range of structural engineering projects involving steel, concrete, masonry and wood structures.
- Design of new structures; assess, investigate, evaluate, and analyze existing structures; design seismic retrofits, modifications, and repairs of existing buildings.
- Execute and manage development of structural construction documents and structural calculation packages.
- Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions.
- Execute the construction administration phase of projects, including submittal review, RFIs, site meetings, and field reports.
- Collaborate with the principal-in-charge, senior project manager, and junior staff to plan and execute projects.
- Serve as a project manager on select projects including budgets, schedules, and staffing.
- Prepare technical reports.
- Maintain direct client and contractor contact within assigned work.
- Assist with training, mentoring, and managing junior staff.
- Assist in proposal development and business development efforts.
- Pursue professional activities to gain professional recognition.
What You’ll Need
- Minimum of 9 years of experience in structural analysis and design of concrete, steel, masonry, and wood-frame structures.
- MS in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineering License in California.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment toward shared goals.
- Proficient in writing and editing project specifications, technical reports, field reports, project correspondence, and proposals.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage project budgets.
- Proficient in computer analysis software (e.g., ETABS, SAP, Perform3D, RISA, RAM, SAFE, etc.).
- Familiarity with codes and guidelines including the California Building Code, ASCE 7, ASCE 41, etc.
- Ability to travel to out-of-state projects and remote job sites as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle report.

Compensation
The base salary is part of SGH’s Total Compensation package, with a good-faith range provided. The actual salary depends on experience, qualifications, and location. The package includes base salary, potential overtime pay, an annual discretionary bonus, generous PTO, health and wellness benefits, and company contributions to the Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan.
Senior Consulting Engineer Or Senior Project Consultant
Salary range: $105,040—$144,560 USD
