Primary Purpose
- Provides medical leadership, strategic direction, and clinical oversight for Research services and programs at Parkland Health.
- Develops appropriate clinical standards and guidelines for Research initiatives.
- Ensures research adherence to exceptional clinical practice and regulatory requirements.
- Supports, facilitates, and participates in financial and administrative activities to achieve organizational goals.
- Serves as the medical expert and professional liaison to nursing and administrative leadership to ensure high-quality, timely, safe, appropriate, and compliant patient-centered research services in all care settings.
Education
Minimum specifications include a Doctoral degree, preferably Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy.
Experience
- At least 5 years as a physician or clinical researcher in a private or public setting.
- 3 to 5 years of experience as a medical director is strongly preferred.
- Experience leading Research programs and initiatives is required.
- Experience building relationships with physicians and advanced practice providers across various specialties.
Equivalent Education and/or Experience
If holding a Medical Doctor or Osteopath degree: must be licensed to practice medicine in Texas or obtain licensure within 6 months of hire. Must meet licensing and registration requirements as per Parkland Health policies within 6 months of hire.
Skills or Special Abilities
- Leadership and talent management, managing physicians, clinicians, and professionals with independence in their roles.
- Experience at a major research organization or university, with substantial academic interaction.
- Strong organizational impact skills, developing strategic goals and operational plans with long-term effects.
- Broad knowledge of complex processes, projects, and regulatory policies, especially Human Research Protection Programs.
- Experience with national research organizations, external funding, and research publications.
- Effective communication and influence skills, engaging with senior leadership and external bodies.
Responsibilities
- Lead clinical and health systems research, focusing on health disparities and health equity initiatives.
- Develop research strategies, foster collaborations, and seek funding opportunities.
- Implement and monitor research goals aligned with organizational strategy.
- Collaborate with external academic institutions and develop research mentorship programs.
- Participate in committees, quality improvement, and safety activities.
- Understand community health needs and develop research initiatives accordingly.
- Identify opportunities for funded research and contribute to operational planning.
- Mentor emerging talent and develop the research workforce.
Job Accountabilities
- Identify process improvements and enhance customer satisfaction.
- Stay updated with industry trends, maintain certifications, and ensure compliance with laws and policies.
