The Director of Engineering will lead and develop an engineering team to deliver world-class custom and configured building products. This role is responsible for R&D engineering, product continuation engineering, design-for-manufacturing, process improvement, post-sale support, and technical leadership. The Director will partner with sales, product management, manufacturing, and supply chain to support both customer needs and company growth objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Leadership & Vision
  • Provide strategic direction and hands-on leadership for the engineering function.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and mentor a high-performing engineering team.
  • Engineering & Technical Oversight
  • Oversee product design, prototyping, and validation for custom and configured products.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, cost, safety, and manufacturability standards.
  • Drive standardization and modular design practices where applicable.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Sales on quoting, feasibility reviews, and customer technical support.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing on process optimization, tooling, and quality improvements.
  • Work with Supply Chain to identify cost-effective materials and suppliers.
  • Operational Excellence
  • Implement engineering best practices, tools, and systems to raise efficiency and accuracy.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for engineering output and quality.
  • Support continuous improvement projects that drive throughput, quality, and cost reduction.
  • Business Impact
  • Align engineering priorities with company strategy to support profitable growth.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, technology roadmaps, and capital investment decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and customer requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven expertise in sheet metal design, fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong background in CAD, ERP/MRP systems, and design-for-manufacturing principles.
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams and driving measurable improvements.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on technical engagement.
