Position Summary

The role of the Wireless Network Engineer II is to work with the Directors of Network Services and IT Network Operations to enable the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the University to offer highly available, robust wired and wireless network services 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The Wireless Network Engineer II is responsible for assisting with the design, configuration, operation, and support of the University’s wired and wireless network infrastructure.

This position requires employees to work onsite.

Essential Functions

  • Design and implement highly scalable and resilient network infrastructure.
  • Configure, implement, and manage wireless infrastructure and Radius server.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations, ensuring integrity, security, and high availability for network services.
  • Maintain current and thorough knowledge of Cisco, Meraki, Mist, and Aruba technologies with particular emphasis on enterprise wireless infrastructure.
  • Maintain current and thorough knowledge of networking technologies.
  • Perform network assessments.
  • Lead and assist in developing technical and user-facing documentation.
  • Produce coverage, usage, and inventory reports.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational abilities and the ability to prioritize and follow up on open issues and projects with a sense of urgency.
  • Ensure that service delivery and customer satisfaction exceed published service levels and coordinate escalation of issues as required.
  • Assist the staff responsible for the deployment, maintenance, and support of hardware and software.
  • Responsible for driving the One DU culture through values and customer service standards.
  • Accountable for outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships through effective and timely communication.
  • Takes initiative and action to respond, resolve, and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers promptly.

  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve communication problems using electronic test equipment (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers, Fiber Optic Light Source & Power Meters, CATV Signal Strength Meters, Cable Locators, Multimeters, Bit Error Rate Testers, Wiring Analyzers, computer utilities, etc.).
  • Able to read, write, speak, understand, and satisfactorily communicate with others in English in person, over the phone, and via email and other collaboration tools.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, telecommunications, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 3 or more years of IT and/or business/industry work experience, including network and voice operations
  • 3 or more years of network operations and support experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Requires exposure to multiple, diverse networking technologies
  • Current and thorough knowledge of Cisco, Juniper, and Aruba technologies
  • Professional level of certification on wireless technologies or equivalent knowledge.
  • The work environment is a university with cyclical periods of increased workloads, with the possibility of moderate to high stress levels.
  • The unit is one of several working collaboratively and cooperatively in a team-based organization.
  • The position may require working irregular hours, including early mornings, weekends, and late evenings.
  • The work environment consists of surroundings with moderate noise levels and frequent contact with electrical devices.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
  • Stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl under desks/tables to troubleshoot cables and network connections; talk or hear; walk up flights of stairs.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. This position requires employees to work onsite.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $95,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
