Position Summary

The Senior Attorney will be a crucial member of the Blockchain Association, responsible for analyzing, interpreting, and influencing the legal and regulatory frameworks governing blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, and DeFi. This role requires an expert with a strong legal background and deep knowledge of the crypto landscape to monitor legal and regulatory developments (e.g., from the SEC, CFTC, Congress, and global bodies), help develop sound policy positions, and advocate those positions to government officials and external stakeholders. The Senior Attorney will provide essential legal guidance, draft agency submissions, and collaborate with members and staff to ensure the association's legal strategy effectively supports innovation while addressing regulatory challenges.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Legal & Regulatory Analysis: Monitor, research, and analyze proposed and existing legislation, and regulations in areas affecting blockchain technology, including financial regulation (e.g., securities, banking, money transmission), privacy, data security, anti-money laundering (AML), and tax.
  • Policy Development: Develop and articulate clear, compelling, and legally sound policy positions and recommendations on behalf of the association and its members.
  • Advocacy & Engagement: Represent the association in meetings, hearings, and written submissions to governmental bodies, regulatory agencies (e.g., SEC, CFTC, Treasury, Congress), and international organizations.
  • Member Support: Provide legal and policy guidance to association members, drafting briefing materials, white papers, and educational content to inform them of regulatory changes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the association's leadership, communications team, industry affairs team, and technical experts to ensure policy initiatives are aligned with the industry's strategic goals and technological realities.
  • Coalition Building: Engage with external stakeholders, including other industry groups, think tanks, and consumer advocates, to build consensus and support for favorable regulatory outcomes.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must have:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with a state bar.
  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience, with a focus on regulatory policy, administrative law, and/or financial technology (FinTech).
  • Deep, demonstrable expertise in the regulatory and legislative landscape concerning financial technology, digital assets, cryptocurrency, or global capital markets.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and public presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex policy positions to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in a government agency, Capitol Hill, or a relevant trade association is a strong plus.

Compensation Information

  • Salary Range: $200,000-250,000
