Senior Network Engineer – Maryland, United States

Salary: $110,880 – $252,840 per year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement large data communications or telecommunications networks, including LANs/WANs.
  • Plan and monitor the installation of communications circuits and manage local area networks and associated equipment (bridges, routers, modem pools, gateways).
  • Prepare trade‑off studies, evaluations, and performance reports for vendor equipment and network utilization.
  • Recommend network design changes and enhancements to improve system availability and performance.
  • Install and configure microcomputers, servers, storage devices, printers, scanners, and networking equipment.
  • Deploy new state‑procured equipment and software to the existing network and restore workstation images.
  • Troubleshoot workstation and network connectivity issues, including hardware and software problems.
  • Configure and maintain network software and hardware for efficient data security and performance.
  • Monitor and manage daily backups of central government servers and perform corrective actions when backups fail.
  • Provide secure remote access support statewide during normal business hours for desktop, server, network, and other systems.
  • Offer expert technical guidance on IT directions, software or hardware enhancements, and procurement recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 9 years of experience in a computer‑related field.
  • Seven years of progressive experience designing, implementing, and analyzing telecommunications networks.
  • Five years of experience with Amazon Web Services and backups.
  • Ten years of experience supporting application development in a multi‑user, LAN‑based Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Five years of experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers and switches on a WAN.
  • Five years of experience providing help‑desk/application support for at least 300 users.
  • Certified network engineer for the relevant network operating system, as required by state regulations.
