POSITION SUMMARY
Modern Government Solutions (MGS) is seeking a Network & Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to design, deploy, and automate next-generation network infrastructure supporting AI and containerized workloads. This role blends cloud systems engineering, automation, and advanced networking to deliver secure, high-performance environments that integrate traditional hardware (routers, switches, firewalls) with Software-Defined Networking (SDN) technologies and the OpenShift Container Platform (OCP).
You’ll be part of a mission‑driven engineering team ensuring scalability, resilience, and security across complex classified infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to)
- Design, deploy, and optimize secure, high-performance network infrastructure across on‑premises and OpenShift environments.
- Automate provisioning, configuration, and operations using tools such as Ansible, Python, and Go, applying Infrastructure‑as‑Code best practices.
- Integrate traditional network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls) with SDN and container‑based networking solutions such as Open vSwitch (OVS), OVN, SONiC, or Cumulus NOS.
- Manage and troubleshoot network connectivity and performance across Linux‑based and containerized systems.
- Support OpenShift/Kubernetes networking, including CNI plugins, MetalLB, and Service Mesh configuration.
- Implement observability and performance monitoring across the full network stack, leveraging tools such as the OpenShift Network Observability Operator.
- Collaborate with network architects, systems engineers, and operations teams to deliver scalable, compliant, and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
- Maintain detailed technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Contribute to modernization efforts by applying innovative technologies and best practices from Top of Rack to Network Border.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) TS/SCI clearance with Counterintelligence polygraph.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of experience in network or cloud infrastructure engineering, including design, automation, and operations.
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience with networking protocols and architectures (LAN, WAN, VLANs, routing, firewalls).
- 3+ years of scripting or programming experience using Python or Go for network automation or tooling.
- 2+ years of experience using automation/configuration frameworks such as Ansible and Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC).
- Proven ability to deploy and troubleshoot hybrid environments across Linux, virtualization, and container platforms (OpenShift/Kubernetes).
- Working knowledge of SDN technologies (OVS, OVN, SONiC, or Cumulus NOS) and OpenShift networking components (CNI plugins, MetalLB, Service Mesh).
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration skills across system and network layers.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficiency in Python or Go scripting and configuration management with Ansible.
- Experience implementing Infrastructure‑as‑Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, or automated configuration workflows.
- Hands‑on experience with SDN technologies and OpenShift/Kubernetes networking (CNI plugins, MetalLB, Service Mesh).
- Familiarity with service mesh technologies for authentication, load balancing, and observability.
- Knowledge of DoD network security and compliance standards.
- Ability to apply modern network automation and optimization practices across the full network stack – from Top of Rack to Network Border.
