Job Description

The K9 Security Officer provides a proactive and visible security presence within the hospital environment while working alongside a trained patrol canine. The primary focus of this role is to deter disorderly conduct, unauthorized access, and other disruptive behavior on hospital property through patrol and observation. This role helps maintain a safe and secure environment for hospital personnel, patients, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine foot patrols of hospital buildings, entrances, parking areas, and surrounding grounds with a trained K9 partner.

  • Serve as a visible deterrent to disruptive behavior, trespassing, and other security‑related concerns.

  • Respond to security incidents such as disturbances, unauthorized persons, or policy violations.

  • Monitor and report on activity in sensitive or restricted areas.

  • Document all incidents, observations, and K9 activity in daily reports.

  • Maintain a calm, professional demeanor during interactions with the public, staff, and individuals exhibiting problematic behavior.

  • Follow all hospital policies and security protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Preferred:
    • Previous work in a healthcare or institutional security setting.
    • Familiarity with basic report writing and incident documentation.
    • Prior experience in security, military, or law enforcement preferred.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Strong observational and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain composed in high‑pressure or emotionally charged situations.
  • Capable of working independently and making decisions within the scope of hospital security procedures.
  • Physically able to stand, walk, and handle a working dog for extended periods.

Working Conditions:
