About Countable Labs

At Countable Labs (formerly Enumerix), we’re reimagining the future of genomics—and we’d love for you to be a part of it! As the innovators behind our groundbreaking Countable PCR platform, we’re building tools that make a real impact in precision medicine. We’re a fast-growing startup fueled by innovation, collaboration, and a mission-driven spirit. If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, build something from the ground up, and help shape the future of genomics, we want you on our team!

Role overview

We are seeking a Staff/Sr Staff Engineer, Bioinformatics Software to join our engineering team. In this role, you will help build the backend data analysis engine that powers our technology . You will be responsible for turning research prototypes into robust, production-ready modules and integrating them into our image analysis pipeline and desktop application. Beyond integration, you’ll shape the core infrastructure — optimizing data loading, algorithm performance, and parallelization while establishing strong software testing practices. You will also contribute to advanced data analysis workflows, including clustering and dimensionality reduction, to validate algorithms and extract insights from high-plex datasets.

This is a high-impact role that bridges research and engineering, enabling the delivery of scalable, reliable, and cutting-edge data analysis capabilities for our platform.

What You’ll Do

  • Help design and build the backend data analysis engine that drives our next-generation molecular assay platform.
  • Transform cutting-edge research prototypes into robust, production-ready software that scientists and engineers can depend on.
  • Architect and optimize pipeline infrastructure — from efficient data loading and memory management to scalable parallel processing.
  • Establish and champion software quality and testing practices to ensure reliability, reproducibility, and confidence in results.
  • Apply multi-dimensional data analysis (clustering, dimensionality reduction, visualization) to validate methods and generate insights from high-plex datasets.
  • Collaborate across disciplines — data science, research, and software engineering — to deliver seamless integration into our desktop application.

What we’re looking for

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Bioengineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in bioinformatics software development for commercial products (life sciences, genomics, scientific imaging, or related areas) — exact level of role will depend on candidate experience.
  • Strong programming skills in MATLAB and Python.
  • Experience building, optimizing, and deploying scientific data pipelines and contributing to software products.
  • Proven expertise in performance optimization: memory management, algorithm efficiency, large-scale data handling.
  • Strong knowledge of software testing practices: unit tests, integration tests, regression frameworks, CI workflows.
  • Experience with parallel processing and workflow automation.
  • Strong background in multi-dimensional data analysis, including data transformation, clustering, and dimensionality reduction.
  • Familiarity with high-dimensional biological data such as fluorescence imaging, flow cytometry, single-cell and/or spatial NGS.
  • Familiarity with image analysis and processing is a plus.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in multi-disciplinary teams, working closely with both scientists and engineers.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment, balancing rigor with adaptability as priorities evolve.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a proven ability to bridge software and data workflows.
