Staff Engineer – Solutions Engineer

Position Overview

We’re looking for a Staff Engineer to work on the "Customer Success – Solution Architecture" team at GEICO. The role involves delivering high‑quality technology products and services in a fast‑moving environment and leading engineering teams to provide a friction‑less experience for customers.

Base Pay Range

$115,000.00/yr – $230,000.00/yr

Position Responsibilities

• Focus on multiple engineering areas and lead teams.
• Own complete solutions across their entire life cycle.
• Ensure product development is customer‑centric and high‑quality.
• Influence product vision in collaboration with product managers, customers and other engineering teams.
• Accountable for solution quality, usability, and performance.
• Lead design sessions and code reviews to raise engineering standards.
• Program in .NET, Python, SQL, NoSQL and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and utilize Azure services.
• Mentor junior team members to help them grow.
• Share best practices and continuously improve processes.

Qualifications

• Fluency in at least two modern languages (Java, C++, Python, C#).
• Experience building microservices and REST APIs.
• Strong architectural design skills (patterns, reliability, scaling).
• Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
• Proficiency in DevOps concepts, cloud architecture, and Azure DevOps.
• Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and Azure Portal.
• Experience in application monitoring and performance assessment.
• Security awareness – Active Directory, Windows Auth, SAML, OAuth.
• Understanding of Azure networking and security zoning.
• Strong algorithm and data structure skills.
• Excellent communication and problem‑solving abilities.
• Comfortable in a fast‑paced, startup‑like environment.
• Familiarity with developer tooling across the SDLC.
• Soft skills: ownership, multi‑tasking, and clear communication.

Experience

• 6+ years of professional software development (Java framework).
• 4+ years in open‑source frameworks.
• 3+ years of architecture and design experience.
• 3+ years with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
