Description

The Principal ElasticSearch Systems Engineer supports an Agile DevSecOps team, maintaining a large ElasticSearch deployment in both AWS cloud and on-prem environments. Responsibilities include configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting clusters, collaborating with architecture and operations teams, and ensuring security best practices.

Primary Responsibilities

• Maintain Elasticsearch clusters in a cloud-based environment across multiple availability zones.
• Ensure clusters run under optimal conditions and perform configuration tuning.
• Evaluate existing indices, search performance, security, and administration.
• Maintain appropriate infrastructure to preserve performance and data integrity.
• Upgrade clusters as permitted by applications relying on them.
• Spin up/customize clusters for development, business needs, and optimize indices for logging and search.
• Troubleshoot cluster issues from shard errors to node/cluster failures.
• Work closely with architecture, engineering, and operations teams to ensure production scalability and stability.
• Ensure security of Elasticsearch clusters and implement best practices.
• Implement monitoring and alerting for clusters.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience with Elasticsearch administration.
• Direct experience maintaining and integrating Elasticsearch in an enterprise environment.
• Experience in Agile development environments.
• Experience deploying Elasticsearch on commercial cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of relevant experience or Master’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience.

Optional Requirements

• Experience working on customer systems.
• Understanding of customer system development policies.
