Territory Sales Account Manager – McLean, VA
We are seeking a Territory Sales Account Manager to deliver best-in-class retail conditions in the McLean, VA market.
Job Description
Field Based Territory Role – Individual Contributor. Responsible for best‑in‑class retail conditions, ensuring core distribution, speed to market, perfect store display locations, and overall brand presence for all Mars Brands. The McLean territory is in close proximity to Mars Family members and senior leadership. This role requires a high degree of integrity and embodies the Five Principles in everything you do.
Key Brands
Mars Wrigley, Mars Petcare, Mars Food, and Mars standalone businesses (KIND, Tru Fru, etc.).
Key Channels
Grocery, C‑Store, Walmart, PetSmart, Pet Specialty, and other Regional Specific Retail Accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Accountable for a response within 24 hours to Mars Family and senior leadership requests.
- Build strong relationships with Key Decision Makers (KDM) to ensure orders are placed and planogram compliance (front end and in aisle).
- Demonstrate effective selling aligned with the company’s strategic focus areas including assortment priorities (core and innovation), shelving objectives and planograms, and incremental displays (permanent and temporary). Ensure secondary displays are placed in high‑traffic areas within stores.
- Partner with customers to deliver sustainable results, leading to increased brand presence, share and gross sales for the company and the customer.
- Responsible for a “calls per day” goal based on retailer weight and geographic constraints.
- Impact “in‑stock” conditions and limit “out of stocks” through territory management and merchandiser management.
- Influence customers to implement solutions where gaps exist. Execute all agreed‑to customer solutions efficiently with detailed follow‑through and effective communication.
- Complete product launches with timely execution to maximize customer impact.
- Responsible for goals that are aligned with the Mars Premium Brands business. This includes, but is not limited to, the development of new Specialty Retail accounts within territory and securing new distribution for Mars Premium Brands items (core, innovation, and seasonal). In general, Mars Premium Brands accounts being developed should be 5 stores or less.
- Drive results through excellent cross‑functional collaboration and communication skills.
- Own and lead this territory’s story through presentations to senior leaders.
- Responsible for storage facility and managing product rotation, inventory allocation, supplies, etc., in an efficient and effective way.
- Attend industry trade shows, team meetings, and sales meetings where applicable.
- Special projects may be assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree, or HS Diploma and equivalent work experience with experience in field sales and territory management.
- 3‑5+ years of experience in sales.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to lift 40 lbs.
- Able to sit, stand and/or drive for long periods of time, as well as frequently bend and kneel.
- Ability to walk for a minimum of 6½ hours per day.
- Demonstrate ability to work remotely.
- A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to travel up to 15% (sales meetings, trade shows, etc.).

Benefits and Compensation
Base pay range: USD 63,231.00 – USD 86,941.00.
The total compensation package for this position will include variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401(k) plan, and paid time‑off benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.
