ACCOUNTANT IV (SR‑22) (1 vacancy) – City and County of Honolulu

What You’ll Do
- Make capitalization and classification decisions based on BWS policies and GAAP to ensure the adequate capture of depreciation, labor, transportation, equipment, and other costs.
- Provide staff support in the analysis of construction projects and the associated deferred costs applying GAAP and the Uniform System of Accounts for Class A Water Utilities.
- Develop and establish rates for billing customers for new service installations, damages to BWS property, and other services provided; determine rates for distribution of labor, transportation, equipment, store expense, and overhead.
- Analyze Balance Sheet and Income Statement accounts at fiscal year end.
- Analyze financial data and provide support in the preparation of financial and statistical reports for various audiences.
- Reconcile general ledger cash balances with the City’s balances on a monthly basis using JDE, CC&B and Advantage.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Requirement
Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with major work in accounting or a related field, minimum 12 semester credit hours in accounting or auditing courses (including at least 6 above the elementary course level).
Verification Requirement

Experience Requirement
Three (3) years of professional accounting experience. A Master’s degree in Accounting from an accredited four‑year college or university substitutes for one of the required years of experience.
Applicable Skills
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of commercial and governmental accounting.
- Knowledge of the preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports.
- Knowledge of public fiscal administration including budgeting and financial reporting.
- Ability to devise and install accounting methods, techniques and procedures.
- Ability to prepare complete and accurate reports and standards.
- Ability to analyze data, detect errors and correct inconsistencies in accounting records.
