SDOT has an immediate opportunity for a public‑service and team‑oriented Senior Safety & Health Specialist . This position will coordinate safety training and support occupational safety and health initiatives more generally. The person in this role must communicate and be team‑oriented, value both solutions and processes, and be able to work effectively in a multicultural workplace with a diverse population.
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinates and develops safety training programs.
- Provides safety support to SDOT’s field operations teams through site audits, safety meetings and safety program delivery.
- Evaluates safety practices, investigates incidents, and makes recommendations based on DOSH & OSHA regulations, and other industry‑best practices.
- Participates in emergency operations and Incident Management Team activations.
- Supports department goals in promoting diversity and social justice.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3 years’ experience in a safety or health‑related field.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related field. OR: A combination of education, training, and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the position’s responsibilities.
Though not requirements, strong candidates will have some of the following experience or be able to describe comparable experience:
- Understanding of DOSH and OSHA regulations
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- Safety or health‑related training credentials
- Experience administering & delivering training to diverse audiences
Other Requirements
- Current Washington Driver’s License
- Background check
- Ability to respond on‑call during emergencies and after‑hours events
- Required to wear protective equipment, follow safety procedures and exercise caution during field inspections in varied weather conditions
- Work is also performed in an office environment

The City’s full salary range for this position is $54.28 – $63.19 hourly.
