Pay Range
$128,400.00 – $176,600.00 annual base salary, plus incentive bonus.
Role Overview
The Global Health and Safety Leader provides centralized oversight to the JM Health and Safety Management team, designing, implementing and maintaining world‑class health and safety programs, and coordinating strategies, goals and tactical objectives across all JM business units.
Your Day To Day
- Establishes and coordinates the overall company philosophy, strategy, policies and organizational priorities for Health, Safety, and Product Stewardship. Ensures activities are consistent with company, local, state, federal, and international laws, regulations, requirements, and voluntary standards.
- Achieves results through collaboration with senior executives, peers, and subordinates.
- Performs the management functions of planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, communicating, and coaching.
- Provides sites with technical support, expertise, direction, and leadership to achieve health and safety objectives.
- Leads the health and safety team and presents to large groups during company Town Hall meetings, the Executive Leadership Conference, and other business unit meetings.
- Actively participates as a member of the Manufacturing Council to drive improvements and influence the organization across business units.
- Provides key trending and analysis of safety performance to inform leadership and make data‑driven decisions for improvements.
- Oversees effective corrective actions following injuries and near misses.
- Identifies and promotes best practices.
- Leads the development and implementation of strategic action plans and tactical measures to reduce or eliminate risks that lead to employee injuries/illnesses and protect company assets and reputation.
- Supports employee engagement at all levels regarding health and safety initiatives.
- Manages Corporate Health, Safety, and Product Stewardship budget, performance to plan, and reporting.
- Defines the need for and develops safety policies, practices, procedures, and training. Ensures standardization across business units and uses systems such as ANSI, ISO.
- Ensures systems are in place to address and monitor compliance on a regular basis.
- Practices continuous improvement to ensure the company uses the most up-to-date safety methodologies, processes, and tools; simplifies activities for plant personnel.
- Drives hazard identification, risk understanding, and reduction efforts utilizing the Hierarchy of Controls.
- Analyzes trends and recommends pragmatic solutions to reverse trends leading to injuries.
- Ensures regulatory compliance of all JM products overseeing the product stewardship function to gather, interpret, and communicate regulatory compliance of products.
- Oversees the product labeling review committee and process for the company's products.
- Manages the Industrial Hygiene function that anticipates, recognizes, evaluates, and controls workplace conditions that may cause worker injury or illness.
- Manages the Occupational Health function that provides injury/illness prevention, compliance with health‑related standards, medical treatment, workers’ compensation reporting, and OSHA recordkeeping.
- Mentors and develops EHS staff.
- Manages performance evaluations, pay reviews, hiring, and termination.
- May perform other related duties as assigned.
What You Bring To The Team
- Bachelor of Science in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or a closely related discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, including manufacturing environment experience (preferably in a global company).
- In‑depth knowledge of health and safety management, regulations, and standards.
- Ability to direct teams and develop EHS professionals; experience in a matrixed environment.
- Experience with global health and safety programs; international experience preferred.
- Experience operating within an EHS management system (e.g., ISO 45001).
- Certifications in health and safety preferred (e.g., CIH, CSP).
- Proven leadership skills that positively impacted health and safety performance, regulatory compliance, and risk reduction.
- Significant knowledge of regulatory and consensus standards related to health and safety, including OSHA recordkeeping.
- Demonstrated ability to interface with regulatory agencies (OSHA, state agencies, EPA offices, ECHA, etc.).
- Strong execution, planning, and organizational skills; successful project management in manufacturing environments.
- Ability to influence stakeholders without direct line‑of‑reporting authority.
- Ability to learn new concepts and risk‑reduction skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage a dispersed staff of salaried employees, set direction, and deploy resources.
- Moderate travel required (approximately 35‑50%) including occasional international travel.
Work environment is typical of an office setting but must also be able to walk around a manufacturing setting. Physical demands include walking, climbing stairs, using ladders and wearing personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection, in hot temperatures as needed.
