The Commvault Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and supporting enterprise data backup and recovery solutions using Commvault software. This role works closely with IT infrastructure teams to ensure data integrity, availability, and security across cloud and on‑premises environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deploy Commvault backup and recovery solutions for physical, virtual, and cloud environments.
- Monitor backup operations, troubleshoot failures, and optimize backup performance.
- Perform regular system health checks and capacity planning for backup infrastructure.
- Manage backup schedules, policies, and retention strategies to meet business and compliance requirements.
- Maintain documentation related to backup configurations, procedures, and disaster recovery plans.
- Provide technical support and resolve incidents related to backup and restore operations.
- Collaborate with system administrators, database administrators, and application teams to ensure comprehensive data protection.
- Stay current on Commvault software updates, patches, and best practices.
- Participate in disaster recovery tests and support restoration efforts during outages.
- Train and mentor junior staff or end‑users on Commvault features and procedures.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Active DOE Q clearance is required
- Strong knowledge of Commvault software and data protection concepts.
- Experience with Windows and Linux server environments.
- Familiarity with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V) and cloud services (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
- Solid understanding of networking protocols, storage systems, and security standards.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Experience
- 3+ years of experience managing enterprise backup solutions, preferably with Commvault.
- Commvault Certified Professional (CCP) or similar certification is a plus.
- Experience supporting disaster recovery planning and execution.
- Background in scripting (PowerShell, Python) for automation of backup tasks.
- Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for data protection (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
