***MUST reside in the greater SAN DIEGO Metropolitan Area*** We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Mid-Level Technical Editor to join our team. In this role, you will review, edit, and standardize a variety of technical documents to ensure clarity, accuracy, and compliance with established guidelines. You will collaborate with subject matter experts, writers, and project managers to refine content for technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring deliverables meet organizational and client requirements.

Description
- Edit, proofread, and format technical documents (e.g., reports, manuals, proposals, white papers, and specifications for clarity, consistency, and accuracy).
- Ensure documents comply with style guides, templates, and organizational/industry standards.
- Verify technical accuracy, clarity, grammar, punctuation, and consistency across documents while improving document flow and readability.
- Collaborate with authors, engineers, analysts, and project teams to refine document content, ensuring technical accuracy, structure and readability.
- Manage document version control and track revisions through the review process.
- Prepare final document deliverables for submission to government, corporate, or client audiences.
- Provide feedback to writers on writing quality, organization, and technical accuracy.
- Support template, glossary, and style guide development to promote consistent communication standards.
- Reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the designated worksite or client facility to support periodic on-site meetings, reviews, and inspections in accordance with contract and security requirements.
- Participate in both on-site and virtual work as needed; while hybrid or telework arrangements may be approved, regular in-person presence is required to fulfill client, program, and compliance obligations.
- Ensure availability for site visits and coordination activities that support contractual commitments and operational needs.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, Journalism, or a related field.
Experience
- 3–5 years of professional experience editing or managing technical documentation preferably in an engineering, defense, or scientific environment.
- Experience editing documents for government or defense contracts is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Exceptional attention to detail and mastery of grammar, spelling, and style.
- Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and simplify them for clarity.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple project deadlines effectively.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience using content management systems (CMS), SharePoint, or collaborative editing platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Confluence)
- Understanding of accessibility standards (Section 508 compliance) preferred.
- Familiarity with markup or publishing tools (e.g., XML, LaTeX, MadCap Flare) is preferred.
- Ability to obtain a DOD Secret clearance. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
